Star Citizen has raised $10 million in 3 months

It wasn’t that long ago when Star Citizen was hoping to reach $20 million to fully cover the cost of creating the game. Now, the space ship simulation game has raised more than three times that.

The game’s campaign had a burst of pledges following the reveal of the first-person mode by IllFonic, jumping up another million in a few days. It’s already close to hitting $61 million in total, which promises to add yet another ship to the game.


At PAX Australia, where developer Cloud Imperium Games was showing the shooter demo, Chris Roberts told TweakTown that he thinks the game will reach $100 million before it’s released sometime in 2016.

The developer is still accepting pledges as low as $30 that gives you a ship but no access to the alpha or beta versions of the game. For that, you’ll have to pay at least $40.

Star Citizen started raising money in 2012 with a $2 million Kickstarter. It currently has about $60.7 million from 644,000 backers.
